Agatha Christie was a phenomenal writer who gave us countless works of crime fiction and detective stories. However, there is a lesser-known side to her. Before she was the renowned author we know today, she was an unpaid nurse in World War I.
At the start of the war, Agatha Christie volunteered to be a nurse for the Red Cross in her home county of Devon. She was only 19 years old at the time and had no experience in nursing. Nevertheless, she worked hard and eventually became a qualified nurse in 1913.
Agatha was a dedicated nurse who worked tirelessly throughout the war. She was also a witness to some of the most horrific events of the war. Despite the trauma, she still had a passion for writing and would compose in her spare time.
It wasn’t until after the war that Agatha Christie would become the world-renowned author we know today. It’s incredible to think that this woman, who was just an unpaid nurse in 1913, went on to become one of the most famous writers in history.
